Chase Field Ground Rules

  1. Ball entering dugout or photographer's area: OUT OF PLAY (award by Book Rule).
  2. Ball on top step (lip) of dugout: IN PLAY.
  3. Ball striking guide wires that support backstop: OUT OF PLAY (no longer in flight if a batted ball).
  4. Batted ball in flight strikes fence of right-field corner wall and leaves the field: HOME RUN.
  5. Batted ball in flight strikes pole (painted black) above fence in right-center field: HOME RUN.
  6. Batted ball in flight strikes right of yellow line in right-center field: HOME RUN.
  7. Batted ball in flight strikes center field wall between yellow lines and caroms over shorter fence: HOME RUN.
  8. Batted ball in flight striking above yellow line in batter's eye and rebounding onto playing field: HOME RUN.
  9. Batted ball striking yellow line: IN PLAY.
  10. Batted ball strikes roof over fair territory:
    • Ball shall be judged fair or foul in relation to where it strikes the ground or is touched by a fielder.
    • If caught by fielder, batter is out and runners advance at own risk.
  11. Batted ball strikes roof in foul territory: DEAD BALL.
    • Ball shall be judged foul, regardless of where it strikes the ground or is touched by fielder.
    • If caught by fielder: FOUL BALL (cannot be caught).
