A's announce plans to celebrate 40th anniversary season in Oakland 01/23/2008 4:10 PM ETMLB.com
OAKLAND -- The Oakland Athletics will celebrate their 40th anniversary season in the East Bay with a season-long promotional campaign highlighting the championship tradition, the players and memorable moments that have contributed to the glorious and colorful past of one of baseball's most successful franchises over the last 40 years.
The first of a series of promotional events will launch on the A's official website oaklandathletics.com/40 on March 1, when on-line voting commences to determine the 40 Greatest Moments in Oakland A's History, along with the selection of the A's 40th Anniversary team. The countdown of the Top 10 moments in Oakland A's history will begin in-stadium on Diamond Vision beginning on September 11, with the top moment in Oakland history unveiled on September 21. The A's 40th Anniversary team will be introduced during a pre-game ceremony on September 20th.
Former A's players will join in the various festivities throughout the year.

Since moving to Oakland for the 1968 season, the A's have made 15 postseason appearances and have captured four World Series championships, six American League pennants along with 14 West Division titles. The A's have compiled the fourth best winning percentage in all of baseball over the past 40 seasons and only the New York Yankees (6) have won more world championships. A's players have also been well-decorated over the past 40 years, winning seven Most Valuable Player awards, five Cy Young awards, six Rookie of the Year awards and 20 Gold Glove awards. In addition, four players-Jim "Catfish" Hunter, Rollie Fingers, Reggie Jackson and Dennis Eckersley-along with manager Dick Williams, paved their paths to the Hall of Fame through Oakland.
Individual game tickets for the Oakland Athletics 2008 season will go on sale on Saturday, January 26 at 9:00 am at all A's ticket outlets, including the McAfee Coliseum Box Office, on-line through www.oaklandathletics.com and Tickets.com or by calling (877) 493-BALL. Season, group and luxury suite tickets can be purchased by calling (510) 638-GoA's (4627). Single game tickets for A's spring training home games at Phoenix Municipal Stadium are currently available on-line at www.oaklandathletics.com or by calling (877) 493-BALL (2255). Tickets will be available at the Phoenix Municipal Stadium Box Office beginning on Monday, February 11th at 10:00 am MST.
