This Day in Baseball History:
February 22, 1999 > Legendary scout Howie Haak dies at the age of 87 from complications caused by a stroke. Haak, who worked for the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1950 to 1988, was one of the first scouts to mine the talent-rich playing fields of Latin American countries. Among his discoveries were Manny Sanguillen, Tony Pena and Hall-of-Famer Roberto Clemente.
