A's sweep Rangers
Oakland leads Mariners by 3 1/2 games in AL West
By Scott Burchett / Special to MLB.com
ARLINGTON -- Oakland scored three runs in the seventh to come from behind and edge Texas, 6-5, on Sunday night.
The A's entered the seventh down by two before Scott Hatteberg, Terrence Long, and Ramon Hernandez started the inning with three straight singles. Hernandez's soft liner over first baseman Mark Teixeira scored Hatteberg, cutting the Texas lead to one run.
"I thought the big hit was Ramon's little jam-shot over first base," A's manager Ken Macha said. "It really opened things up from there."
Jermaine Dye then grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Long and tied the game at five. Erubiel Durazo and Eric Byrnes drew walks to load the bases for Eric Chavez.

Texas reliever Aaron Fultz promptly walked him, forcing in Dye for the go-ahead run.
Outfielder Jose Guillen had to leave the game after the second inning with a strained left wrist. He was hurt on a swinging third strike leading off the second inning. He will fly to Oakland tomorrow to be examined by team doctors and will not be with the team when it starts its series with Anaheim.
The seriousness of the injury is not known, but the A's may be without the slugger for a least a couple of days.
Five relievers held Texas scoreless over the game's final 4 2/3 innings. John Halama, Chad Harville, Jim Mecir, and Chad Bradford pitched the middle innings of relief, and Keith Foulke tossed the final 1 1/3 innings to earn his 42nd save of the season.
"The bullpen gave us some innings, some good innings," Macha said. "They gave us a chance to win."
Starter Justin Duchscherer did not pitch well after shutting out Anaheim for seven innings in his first outing with Oakland. He gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work.
"They hit some of his fastballs pretty hard," Macha said. "I was asking Ramon [Hernandez], and he said that Duchscherer was trying to hit the corners a little too much. When he fell behind, they hit him hard."

Duchscherer was pulled after a Michael Young single in the fourth and replaced by Jeremy Fikac, who was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento earlier in the day. Fikac pitched one inning and gave up two hits, including a 424-foot solo shot by Alex Rodriguez.
"The bullpen was awesome," Duchscherer said. "They came in and did a great job. We scratched away and scored some runs and came back and won."
Hernandez and Miguel Tejada both hit home runs and combined to drive in four of Oakland's five runs. Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Tejada 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Seattle lost to Anaheim Sunday, moving the A's 3 1/2 games in front of the Mariners in the American League West. It is the largest lead Oakland has held over Seattle all season.
