A's acquire Murphy from Royals
Infielder likely headed for Sacramento or Midland in '07
OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's announced on Tuesday that they have acquired infielder Donnie Murphy from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations.Murphy played in 94 games for Double-A Wichita in 2006 with 14 homers and 45 RBIs. The 23-year-old hit .249 during the regular season and .333 with a home run in eight postseason games for the Wranglers. His 14 home runs were a career high even though he was on the disabled list May 1-14 with a sprained left thumb and again Aug. 8-25 with right wrist tendinitis. Murphy, who plays second base, made his Major League debut with the Royals in 2004 and batted .185 in seven games. He played in 32 games with Kansas City in 2005 and is a .163 career hitter with one home run and 11 RBIs. Murphy will likely join the A's for Spring Training and play in the Minor Leagues during the season with either Triple-A Sacramento or Double-A Midland.
