Righty pitches pair of hitless innings in Game 1 for Dodgers

Dodgers at the plate: They took a 3-0 lead by scoring two runs in the second inning and one in the next inning off left-hander Matt Chico. Mark Sweeney had an RBI groundout, while John Lindsey had an RBI single in the second inning. Andre Ethier hit a solo home run in the third inning.
The Dodgers went ahead in the top of the sixth when Lindsey hit a two-run homer off right-hander Collin Balester.
Nationals at the plate: The Nationals tied the score at 3 in the bottom of the third off right-hander Justin Orenduff. Jesus Flores scored on a wild pitch, while Lastings Milledge drove in two runs with a single to left field.
Dodgers on the mound: Right-hander Esteban Loaiza pitched two shutout innings, while Orenduff gave up three runs in one-third of an inning.
Nationals on the mound: Chico lasted three innings and gave up three runs on four hits. Balester pitched three innings and gave up two runs.
Grapefruit League records: Dodgers 2-3, Nationals 2-4-1.
Up next: Washington travels to Jupiter Fla. to play the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is at 1:05 p.m. ET. The last time these two teams met was on Monday with the Nats winning, 3-2, in Viera, Fla.
On Wednesday, Washington left-hander John Lannan will face St. Louis right-hander Mike Parisi.
