Giants' voice to work Civil Rights Game
AT&T Park announcer Brooks-Moon adds to her accolades
SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants public-address announcer Renel Brooks-Moon missed Thursday night's exhibition game against the Seattle Mariners and also will miss Friday night's cross-bay encounter against Oakland, but she had an extremely good reason.
Brooks-Moon was selected to serve as the ballpark voice for Saturday's Civil Rights Game in Memphis between the New York Mets and Chicago White Sox. Joe Hallisey replaced Brooks-Moon at AT&T Park. This will be another distinction for Brooks-Moon, who joined the Giants when they moved into the bayside ballpark in 2000. She became the first woman to announce a championship game in any professional sport when her voice resounded through the ballpark in Game 3 of the 2002 World Series between the Giants and then-Anaheim Angels. Her scorecard from that game was exhibited at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y. Moon also has been a radio personality in the Bay Area for more than 20 years.Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com. This story was not subject to the approval of Major League Baseball or its clubs.
