Scott Sizemore Undergoes Successful Surgery
A’s Third Baseman Has ACL Repaired This Morning
OAKLAND, CALIF. – The Oakland Athletics announced today that third baseman Scott Sizemore underwent successful reconstructive surgery this morning to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. Sizemore, who suffered the injury in the team’s first full-squad workout Feb. 27 in Phoenix, will miss the entire 2012 season.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Douglas Freedberg of the Arizona Sports Medicine Center of Scottsdale.
Sizemore, who batted .249 with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 93 games last year, will begin a rehabilitation program in the coming week and should have no limitations when the A’s start spring training next year. Originally selected by Detroit in the 2006 First-Year Draft, the Virginia Beach, Va. native was acquired by Oakland for pitcher David Purcey last May 27.
