RHP Graham Godfrey Optioned to Sacramento
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled left-handed pitcher Pedro Figueroa from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned right-handed pitcher Graham Godfrey to Sacramento, the club announced today.
Figueroa made five relief appearances with Sacramento and did not allow a run in 7.0 innings. He allowed just two hits, both April 10 at Tucson, and held the opposition to a .087 batting average. Figueroa also did not allow a run in seven spring training appearances with Oakland (7.0 ip) and yielded a .167 batting average before he was optioned to Sacramento March 20. The 26-year old left-hander will be making his Major League debut after logging a 25-27 record and a 3.91 ERA in 121 games, including 78 starts, in nine seasons in the minors. The Dominican native was originally signed by the A’s as a non-drafted free agent November 20, 2003 and was named the A’s Organizational Pitcher of the Year in 2009 after combining for a 13-6 record and a 3.38 ERA in 27 starts with Single-A Kane County and Single-A Stockton. Figueroa then had “Tommy John” surgery in June, 2010 and missed nearly the entire 2011 season before making two starts with the A’s affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League last August.
Godfrey was on the A’s Opening Day roster and went 0-3 with a 5.06 ERA in three starts with the A’s. He allowed a .250 opponents batting average but issued seven walks in 16.0 innings, including five in 5.0 innings in his last outing last night against Cleveland, a 4-3 loss.
