Puerto Rico claims last spot in World Baseball Classic Championship Round
Giants and Puerto Rico outfielder Angel Pagan to compete for title in San Francisco; strip and individual tickets available for fans
Puerto Rico is the final team to advance to the World Baseball Classic Championship Round to be held at AT&T Park in San Francisco starting Sunday night. Puerto Rico joins Japan, the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Dominican Republic, which had already clinched a berth to compete for the title in San Francisco.
Puerto Rico features San Francisco Giants outfielder Angel Pagan and Major League All-Stars Carlos Beltran and Yadier Molina. Puerto Rico will play the Dominican Republic on Saturday in Miami to determine their opponents in the Championship Round. The Dominican team is lead by All-Stars Jose Reyes, Robinson Cano, Hanley Ramirez and Fernando Rodney, along with Giants World Champion Santiago Casilla.
The loser of the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic game on Saturday at Marlins Park will be the visiting team on Sunday night against Japan, the two-time defending champions of the World Baseball Classic. The winner of the Puerto Rico-Dominican Republic game will be the home team Monday night against The Kingdom of Netherlands, managed by Giants hitting coach Hensley Meulens and led by five-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove winner Andruw Jones. The roster of the Kingdom of the Netherlands now features infielder Jurickson Profar, the consensus number one prospect in all of Major League Baseball, for the Championship Round.
Individual tickets for all three games in San Francisco can be purchased at worldbaseballclassic.com or by calling 877-4SFGTIX.
