FLUSHING, N.Y. - The New York Mets today announced the club placed lefthanded pitcher Jonathon Niese on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to July 5, with a left shoulder strain. To replace him on the active roster, the team selected the contract of righthanded pitcher Buddy Carlyle from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Carlyle will wear No. 44.

Niese, 27, is 5-4 with a 2.96 ERA in 17 games, 17 starts.

Carlyle returns for his second stint with the team. He went 1-0 and did not allow a run over 4.1 innings in two games with the team from May 31-June 5.
