Derek Jeter of the Yankees named American League Player of the Week
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, who hit .436 with two homers, 10 RBI and a League-high 11 runs scored, has been named Bank of America Presents the American League Player of the Week for the week of September 6-12. Bank of America, the official bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the bank's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

Jeter collected at least one hit and one run in each of his seven games last week, going 13-for-30 with four doubles, 23 total bases, a .767 slugging percentage and a .472 on-base percentage. He also had four multi-hit games and drove in a run in six of his seven contests. The Yankees are now 17-1 in games in which Jeter hits a home run. This is his second career weekly award (previous: 8/5/01).

Other candidates were fellow Yankee Alex Rodriguez (.323, 11 RBI); Detroit's Carlos Guillen (.476) and Craig Monroe (.385, 4 HR, 9 RBI); Kansas City's Angel Berroa (.452, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and Joe Randa (.462, 5 RBI, 9 R); Kevin Mench (.370, 5 HR, 6 RBI), Mark Teixeira (4 HR, 13 RBI) and Michael Young (.419, 3 RBI) of Texas; and last week's winner, Toronto's Carlos Delgado (.409, 3 HR, 6 RBI).

Pitchers on this week's ballot were C.C. Sabathia (1-0, 1.79 ERA, 1 CG) of the Indians; Anaheim's Bartolo Colón (2-0, 1.29 ERA); Boston's Bronson Arroyo (2-0, 1.98 ERA); Mark Buehrle (1-0, 2.00 ERA, 1 CG) of the Chicago White Sox; and Orlando Hernandez (2-0, 1.93 ERA) of the Yankees.
