OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's today announced that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Kazuhito Tadano from the Cleveland Indians in exchange for Minor League outfielder Ramon Alvarado. Tadano will be placed on the A's 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Sacramento.
Tadano pitched for Cleveland this spring and was 0-1 with two saves and a 4.05 ERA in six relief appearances. He was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on March 16 and was designated for assignment on April 1. Tadano spent most of the 2005 season at Buffalo where he was 5-5 with a 4.39 ERA and five saves in 32 games, eight starts. The 25-year old native of Japan also pitched in one game for the Indians last year and is 1-1 with a 4.47 ERA in 15 career Major League appearances, four starts.
Alvarado played for the A's affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League last year and hit .296 with six home runs and 32 RBI in 48 games. He was originally signed out of the Dominican Republic as a non-drafted free agent on October 1, 2001.
