OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Oakland A's today announced that left-handed pitcher Joe Kennedy has been claimed on waivers by the Arizona Diamondbacks. To take his spot on the roster, the A's have recalled right-handed pitcher Ruddy Lugo from Triple-A Sacramento.
Lugo was 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA and a team leading 10 saves in 17 relief appearances with Sacramento. He did not allow a run in 16 of those outings and held the opposition to a .081 batting average. This is Lugo's third stint with the A's this year after being claimed on waivers from Tampa Bay on June 14. He had two wins and a 9.28 ERA in 11 games with the Devil Rays and then posted a 21.00 ERA in three relief appearances for the A's for an 11.85 ERA in 14 appearances overall. The 27-year old Lugo was also with Oakland from June 14 to 18 and June 25 to 29.
Kennedy was 3-9 with a 4.37 ERA in 27 games, 16 starts, with Oakland. He began the season in the A's starting rotation but moved to the bullpen on July 6. The 28-year old left-hander posted a 4.03 ERA in his 16 starting assignments and a 6.94 ERA in 11 relief appearances. Kennedy was acquired by the A's from Colorado at the 2005 All-Star Break and went 11-15 with a save and a 4.03 ERA in 85 games, including 24 starts, in an Oakland uniform.
