OAKLAND -- The Oakland A's today claimed outfielder Rajai Davis off waivers from San Francisco and designated right-handed pitcher Kirk Saarloos for assignment.
Davis was on the Giants Opening Day roster but was designated for assignment on April 20 after hitting .056 with four stolen bases in 12 games. He made his Major League debut with Pittsburgh in 2006 and was traded to the Giants on July 31, 2007 in the Matt Morris trade. The 27-year old right-handed hitter has a .252 career average with one home run, nine RBI and 27 stolen bases in 107 games. Davis has made 45 career starts in center field, two in left field and one in right field. He is scheduled to join the A's tomorrow.
Saarloos was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on April 14 and appeared in two games for the A's, posting a 2.35 ERA without a decision. He was also 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts with the River Cats. Saarloos was a non-roster invitee with the A's this spring after spending the 2007 season in the Cincinnati organization where he was 1-5 with a 7.17 ERA in 34 games, three starts, over four stints with the Reds.
