Oakland A's right-handed pitcher Jason Rice has been claimed off waivers by the Cleveland Indians, the team announced this morning.
Rice, who was acquired by Oakland last Wednesday for Conor Jackson and cash considerations, was placed on outright waivers by the A's Friday. He was selected from Triple-A Sacramento Thursday but did not pitch in a game with Oakland. Rice has posted a 26-31 record and 3.91 ERA in 256 career appearances in the minor leagues. Prior to being traded to Oakland, he had spent the entire season at Triple-A Pawtucket in registering a 4-5 mark and 3.69 ERA (35 er, 85.1 ip) with four saves in 44 relief appearances.
