OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s recalled right-handed pitcher Andrew Carignan and outfielder Collin Cowgill from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned right-handed pitcher Jim Miller and outfielder Michael Taylor to Sacramento, the club announced today.

Carignan was on the A’s Opening Day roster and posted a 6.23 ERA in five relief appearances before he was optioned to Sacramento April 17.  He issued five walks in 4.1 innings.  The 25-year-old right-hander appeared in seven games with the River Cats, logging a 1.64 ERA and .158 opponents batting average.  He issued just one walk in 11.0 innings and struck out 17.  Opponents were 0 for 10 when leading off an inning and he allowed a .158 average against both left-handed hitters and right-handers.

Cowgill was also on the A’s Opening Day roster but saw limited playing time before he was optioned to Sacramento April 17.  He went 0 for 4 with three walks in three games, including one start each in left field and right field.  The 25-year-old right-handed hitter batted .282 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 19 games with the River Cats.  After batting .179 over his first seven games, he hit safely in 11 of his final 12 contests, going 17 for 50 (.340).  Cowgill was successful in all four of his stolen base attempts and batted .387 with runners in scoring position.

Miller was selected from Sacramento April 25 and was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA in six relief appearances with Oakland.  He allowed both of his inherited runners to score but held the opposition to a .229 batting average.  Taylor was recalled from Sacramento May 4 and went 3 for 16 (.188) with one double and no RBI in four games.  He started four games with the A’s, including three in right field and one in left field.
