Moore signs Minor League deal, invited to camp
By Jane Lee / MLB.com
Moore, outrighted by the Astros earlier this month, played in 72 games for Houston this year, splitting time at third base, first base, right field, second base and left field.
"I had quite a few offers and Oakland called me and talked to me and basically there, guys in my situation have been known to get pretty good opportunities to play," Moore said. "Also, I'm going into my 12th season and I've never really been anywhere remotely close to home [Southern California] and that was pretty exciting, too."
Moore, 29, is a career .242 hitter with 16 home runs and 53 RBIs in 152 games. Aside from the Astros, he has also spent time with the Cubs and Orioles.
Reliever Resop acquired from Pirates
OAKLAND -- The A's on Friday acquired right-handed reliever Chris Resop from the Pirates, to whom they dealt Minor League righty Zach Thornton in a trade.
To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Resop, the A's designated righty Sandy Rosario -- acquired Wednesday from the Red Sox -- for assignment.
Resop, 30, was 1-4 with a 3.91 ERA in 61 relief appearances with Pittsburgh last season, tossing a career-high 73 2/3 innings along the way -- good for seventh among National League relievers.
Resop has a 4.51 career ERA with two saves in 213 relief outings spanning parts of seven seasons with the Marlins, Angels, Braves and Pirates.
Thornton, a 23rd round Draft pick by the A's in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, spent the 2012 campaign at Class A Stockton, where he was 4-0 with 16 saves and a 4.53 ERA in 48 appearances.
Neshek avoids arbitration with one-year deal
OAKLAND -- The A's have agreed to terms with right-handed reliever Pat Neshek on a one-year contract, avoiding arbitration.
Neshek's deal is worth $975,000, and he can earn an additional $25,000 for 45 games pitched, 55 games pitched and 65 games pitched, MLB.com has learned.
The 32-year-old Neshek was acquired from the Orioles on Aug. 3 for cash considerations and was tremendous for the A's down the stretch, going 2-1 with a 1.37 ERA and .147 opponents' average in 24 appearances.
Right-handed reliever Jim Miller was claimed off waivers by the Yankees on Friday. Miller, who was 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 33 appearances with the A's, was designated for assignment Nov. 20.
