Call overturned after Braves challenge vs. A's

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves used video review to overturn a safe call on a pickoff play and short-circuit an Oakland A's rally in the first inning Friday night.
With one out, runners on first and second and an 0-1 count on Oakland catcher Derek Norris, Braves starter Alex Wood whirled and fired to second baseman Tommy La Stella, who snuck in behind left fielder Jonny Gomes, who had walked and moved to second on a walk to third baseman Josh Donaldson.
Second-base umpire Ted Barrett originally called Gomes safe but after Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez challenged, the call was overturned after a 1-minute, 30-second review. The call was the 18th the Braves have had overturned in 23 reviews this season.
