7/22/2014 | Price may stick with eight-man bullpen

The Reds have been operating with 13 pitchers, eight of them relievers, and playing a man short on the bench for nearly two weeks. This week the reason was, in part, to have pitching depth in case Mat Latos and Homer Bailey did not return well from their injuries, but it appears that the eight-man bullpen could remain for the time being.

7/22/2014 | Mattingly impressed with Kemp's play in right field

Yasiel Puig and Hanley Ramirez missed another start Tuesday night nursing left hand injuries, so manager Don Mattingly had Matt Kemp back in right field and Justin Turner at shortstop. Kemp, in fact, impressed Mattingly so much with his natural play in right field Monday night that Mattingly said he is considering trying Puig in center field.

Rangers reliever Joakim Soria's contract contains a partial no-trade clause that lists a number of teams to which he can't be traded by Texas. Soria just doesn't know which teams are included, and he hasn't bothered to ask his agent. That's how much he's worried about being traded before the July 31 non-waiver Trade Deadline.

7/22/2014 | Padres-Yankees trade benefits both sides

Good trades benefit both teams. A trade should not be judged on a "winner" or "loser" basis. If a trade benefits the clubs involved, it's a good deal. That's my impression of the transaction that sent veteran third baseman Chase Headley from the Padres to the Yankees for prospect Rafael De Paula and infielder Yangervis Solarte. Everybody wins: the clubs and the players.

7/22/2014 | Yanks buy low on Headley, but will bat recover?

Once the face of the Padres, Chase Headley was sent to the Yankees for much smaller return than he once could have landed for the Friars. And while the Yankees hope his offensive levels return to its prior form, his glove will play at New York's hot corner.
