Breast Cancer Awareness Day Saturday, September 13th @ 1:05 p.m. vs. Texas Rangers
The 2008 season marks the tenth year of the Oakland A's Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Over the past nine seasons, the Oakland A's have donated over $850,000 to breast cancer awareness, education, and research since 1998.
The A's goal in 2008 is to reach $1,000,000 contributed in the past 10 years. This goal will be accomplished through corporate partner support and ticket packages.
Each year the A's donate a "Gift of Faith" grant in which they give $5,000 to a charitable organization, in memory of longtime KTVU Channel 2 reporter Faith Fancher. Founded in 1997, Friends of Faith is a nonprofit charitable organization of professional women dedicated to fighting the breast cancer epidemic through the power of information and by providing funds to local organizations to help provide direct assistance to under-served and under-insured women in their battle against breast cancer.
To help raise additional funds, the A's will be selling Breast Cancer Awareness pins and caps at home games beginning in June. The Oakland A's will also be raffling off a custom designed quilt that includes the autographs of the entire 2008 A's team. The fundraising effort will culminate on September 13th when the A's take on the Texas Rangers @ 1:05PM, with a special day honoring breast cancer survivors.
Over 3,000 breast cancer survivors will participate in the on-field ceremony that is dedicated to hope and survival. Be a part of a team that is committed to overcoming breast cancer. If you are a survivor and would like to participate in the on-field ceremony, please call the American Cancer Society hotline at (866) 457-6669 by Friday, August 15th to register.
The A's 10th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day is presented by Oil of Olay. Additional sponsors include Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, Comcast, Ghirardelli Chocolate, Ross Dress For Less, and the Contra Costa Times.
