Partner/Owner When Oakland native Ken Hofmann purchased the Athletics franchise with partner Steve Schott in November 1, 1995, the duo ensured the A's would remain a fixture in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future. Mr. Hofmann has enjoyed a successful business career as one of California's top land developers. After working as a plastering contractor for three years, he moved into the home building business in 1951 and in 1957, formed the Hofmann Company. Over the last 46 years, the Hofmann Company has built over 30,000 homes and apartments, along with over $150 million in other commercial and industrial properties. Today, the Hofmann Company operates two athletic clubs, a youth center and a championship golf course. Mr. Hofmann is a two-time president and a member of the Board of Directors of the Building Industry Association and also holds a membership with the National Association of Home Builders. Born and raised in Oakland, Mr. Hofmann graduated from Fremont High School and attended Saint Mary's College in Moraga for two years before earning his degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. A World War II veteran, Mr. Hofmann served the Merchant Marines in many theaters, earning a rating of Master Marine. Mr. Hofmann has served on the Board of Trustees and is a Regent Emeritus at Saint Mary's College and is a member of the alumni association of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. He endowed Saint Mary's football stadium, basketball facility and a football scholarship. In 1983, he was named Saint Mary's Alumnus of the Year. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Hofmann is a former executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation. He has also been an active fundraiser for Ducks Unlimited, the California Waterfowl Association, and the Regional Theater for the Arts in Walnut Creek and the Mount Diablo Medical Center. Mr. Hofmann and his wife of 46 years, Jean, reside in Lafayette, Calif. They have two daughters.
